Do You Hear What I Hear? Using Words to Capture Interest and Engage Students

Presenter: Laura Swinsburg / Stow-Munroe Falls City School Counselor

Description: The words we choose when speaking with children and young adults are powerful tools in counseling and education. This session provides its participants with a deeper research based understanding of how their habits of speech and choices of words affect student participation, interest, and 'buy in' throughout the counseling process. This session will provide an easy to apply, evidence based framework (with handouts and materials) of simple steps to engage and motivate audiences during challenging counseling or guidance lessons by being more intentional in our delivery of words and phrases.

Presenter InformationLaura is a licensed professional school counselor and has worked across all age settings, K-12 as a counselor. She has multiple certifications and trainings in personality & career exploration including Myers-Briggs Type and PMAI Assessments. She is on the NAMI Board (Summit County National Alliance for Mental Illness), president of the Summit County Counselors Association, and in her spare time, enjoys acting in local community theatre.

Additional Information: Pre-registration is required and will be open through the end of the day on April 19. A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to all registrants the day before the workshop. A CE certificate will be emailed to those in attendance after the event.

The workshop is free and available to OSCA members only.
