Policy Governance means the Board will guide the decisions, actions, and behaviors of the association through a framework of four types of policies: ends, executive limitations, board-management delegation and governance process policies. Under Policy Governance, the Board delegates the operation of the association to the Executive Director and their team. Policy Governance provides a framework where the Board and the Executive have clearly defined roles and expectations. At its core, the Board is responsible for setting the vision of the association and the Executive Director is responsible for making that vision happen. Below is a graphic that helps clearly define responsibilities.
