Depression Education is Suicide Prevention: Programs & Resources from Erika's Lighthouse, an approved provider for HB 123

SESSION DESCRIPTION: Depression education is suicide prevention. This session will discuss the current status of youth mental health and how to promote inclusive school cultures through help-seeking skills, reducing stigma and normalizing mental health conversations. Attendees will gain access to Erika's Lighthouse free mental health and depression resources that include classroom education programs, teen empowerment, family engagement and staff development to promote early identification, prevention, and reduce stigma. Erika's Lighthouse is an approved suicide awareness and prevention and violence prevention program for Ohio HB 123, to be implemented in the 2023-24 school year.

PRESENTER BIO: Ilana Sherman joined Erika’s Lighthouse in September 2019 as Director of Education. She has a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Ilana brings with her 20 years of non-profit health education programming experience. Ilana is excited to be part of Erika’s Lighthouse to help further the mission and empower preteens, teens, their caregivers and educators to learn and talk openly about adolescent depression, break down the stigma that exists and provide accessible resources for schools.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Pre-registration is required and will be open through the end of the day on February 14. A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to all registrants the day before the workshop. The workshop is free to OSCA members and $10 for non-members. A CE certificate will be emailed to those in attendance after the event. Please note that non-members who still have an outstanding balance will not be provided with a CE certificate.
