Ohio Legal Definition of a School Counselor
(as established in House Bill 1 passed on July 17, 2009 by Gov. Ted Strickland)
"Counselor" means a person with a valid educator license issued pursuant to section 3319.22 of the Revised Code who provides pre-college and career counseling, general academic counseling, course planning, and other counseling services that are not related to a student's individualized education plan, as defined in section 3323.01 of the Revised Code.

LOCAL LEVEL ADVOCACY

When we talk about school counselor advocacy, many people imagine it to involve influencing some major piece of legislation. While this is advocacy, OSCA wants all school counselors to recognize that advocacy starts in your own schools and communities.
